The head of the policymaking council for the ECO Calligraphy Festival in Tajikistan, Gholamhossein Amirkhani, is convinced that the festival can reinforce the deep roots of calligraphy in the ECO member states.
Tajikistan’s capital Dushanbe will be hosting the ECO Calligraphy Festival running from October 13 to 27.
In a press conference held here on Tuesday, veteran calligrapher Amirkhani elaborated on the programs of the festival.
All the nations can reach a common language and unity through art, but this requires good programming, he said.

The Iranian city of Qazvin, birthplace of Mir-Emad was declared the capital of calligraphy for ECO member countries,
ECO Cultural Institute (ECI) director Hojjatollah Ayyubi announced on Wednesday.
Qazvin is the birthplace of Mir-Emad who was the titan of the nastaliq script, a unique and ornate Iranian style of calligraphy.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the first international biennial of calligraphy on May 12 in Qazvin, Ayyubi said that a wide range of cultural activities are being carried out in ECO member countries, among which is promoting calligraphy.

Mir Emad has always been considered one of the best calligraphers in Persian art history.His works have given personality to Iranians among muslim calligraphers since his Nastaaligh are some of the rare productions in traditional and modern art .

First national festival of calligraphy started work on 6th May in Qazvin north Iran.The festival includes works of Iranian artists from 29 provinces.
Preparation for the long awited festival started last year with it's secretariat held in Qazvin and according to the secretary of the event so far 408 artists with 571 works have succeded entering the competitions.
The festival representing one of the oldest art forms in the country includes different styles of calligraphy ;Nastaaligh with 278 works, 130 works of broken nastaaligh, 44 works of tholth and 72 works in modern inclinations of the ancient art.
It has been announced by the secretariat that The participating artists were selected from among 730 artists who registered to participate inj the event.
