Quran Manuscripts in Hazrate Masoumeh Museum (6) PDF Print E-mail

Museum of hazrate Masouma's shrine holds some of the most precious manuscripts of Holy Quran in Iran.The books in the collection have fine works of book decoration techniques; tazhib,book covering and calligraphy.Some of the works are from the beggining of Islamic era like 2nd and 3rd century coinsiding with Abbasids Kalifs, and later periods of Ale Buyid,Seljuks,Ilkanid,Teimurid,Safavid and Qajar dynasties. The oldest copy of Quran in this museum is from 198 AH and the name of Mamun Abbasid can be seen on the beggining.

 Manuscripts are on skin and paper and writing styles are in Kufi,Thulth,Naskh,Mohaghegh and Reyhan.In some copies whole the book is written in one style but some are composed of different styles.

Most of the Qurans are written by black ink but some other are with gold and Lajvard as ink.

There are some farsi translation of Quran in the manuscripts and the translations in Farsi are a good source of research on the historical development of the language. 

Famous Quran calligraphers like Ahmad Tabrizi,Feizullah Lajouri,Shamsuddin Abdullah Doost Mohammad Ibn Suleiman Al Heravi, and Ali Naghi Ibn Mohammad kabir Rabbani are presented in the collection. 

Decorations include; flower and Eslimi Leaves,Toranj,Sar Toranj,Lachak Toranj,Shamse and Sharghe,Tables works and Kamande Zarrin and Zanjire with different colouring techniques.
