Semnan, the Iranian city in the heart of the Dasht-e Kavir desert, is currently playing host to the Ninth National Biennial of Contemporary Iranian Ceramic Art.

The opening ceremony, attended by a number of artists and officials, was held at the Komesh Cultural Center on May 30.

The organizers paid tribute to veteran potters Mohammad-Mehdi Qanbeigi and Mehdi Anusheh during the ceremony.

A total of 173 pottery works by 112 artists have been put on display during the biennial, which runs until June 28.
